Android 5.0 a.k.a Jelly Bean to be unveiled in 2Q of 2012

The next major version of Android , version 5.0 is rumored to release in the second quarter of 2012.According to DigiTimes report the Android 5.0 Jelly Bean (By the Android naming convension) is to be unveiled in the 2Q of this year.Sources say that the OS may be revealed in June at the Google I/O developer events.

It has not been so long that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was much awaited. But unfortunately ICSĀ  now has only 1% of total Android devices in use.Due to ICS ‘s “higher minimum requirements” of hardware many devices weren’t able to get an ICS update. Also in some cases it is still in customization by companies.

Android 5.0 is said to have many features from the Google’s Open source Chrome OS and this would add much power to the Jelly Bean. This new release of Android would support Dual booting with other OS and so can be Dual Booted with Chrome OS or Windows 8 in net-books and Tablets.Android 5.0 is to be optimised for better performance on Tablets and Notebooks and also would support instant Switch between Android and Chrome or Windows 8 OS without requiring a reboot.

This version of Android will be a tough competitor against iOS5 and Windows 8 which is to release around the same time.Which OS would OEMs prefer? Or would they offer dual-boots between Android and Windows? All our questions would be answered in few months…
