Xperia Users! Get ready to taste Ice Cream Sandwich

Comment

Its finally almost here, the ICS update for Xperia Devices of 2011.ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) is the latest version of Android OS, the version 4.0. Android 4.0 is currently only about 2-3 percentage of total android devices in use. This is because of the greater dominance of Gingerbread due to its features and less hardware requirements than ICS.

The ICS work for update for Xperia started in the Q4 of 2011.The Sony Ericsson Dev team has put much efforts for this customization of Timescape interface and to meet up with the technical challenges that the devices pose for the newer OS. Sony Ericsson reports that Most of the Apps use more RAM space for running on ICS than on Ginger bread.Out of the 512 MB, Apart from those reserved for the phone’s main apps to run, only 320 MB approx is available for the linux system behind Android. This additional RAM requirement by the apps may have a serious effect on the device’s performance. So the customization took so long and is now said to begin the roll out of update by the Mid April 2012.

Previously it was said that the user will be notified on phone of the update and can download via PC suite or in air via network or WiFi.But now since the user would have to decide whether to go for the update or not, it will be available only through the PC suite.Tghe first phone to get this update will be Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray.Later this would be followed by the line up of  Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman which would get their Scoop by end of May or start of  June.
