Untethered jailbreak out for iOS 4.3.1 – except for iPad2

The iPhone dev team has revealed its latest version of Pwnage tool and redsn0w tool that allows one to jailbreak the iOS on their apple device. The thing that is special about this release is that it is “untethered” ,that is one does not have to repeat the jailbreak process every time he reboots. The tethered jailbreak solution was offered in a few hours, when apple released an update in march.

This release has made many iOS users who want their device to be jailbreaked so that they can install third party applications. The team has made the tool available on bittorrent and also on a hand full of mirrors. This release can be used to jailbreak, all devices that actually support 4.3.1 except for the iPad2:

  • iPhone3GS
  • iPhone4 (GSM)
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad1
  • AppleTV 2G (PwnageTool only for now)

The reason the untether won’t work as-is on the iPad2 is that it requires a bootrom or iBoot-level exploit to install, and the iPad2 is not susceptible to either the limera1n or SHAtter bootrom exploits.

Also, ultrasn0w users are advised against updating until Dev-team puts out an update to fix incompatibilities when iOS 4.3.1 is used on the older basebands supported by ultrasn0w.
