Vodafone India reduces the data charges by 80 percent

Following its roll out of this discounted rates for 2G data on  Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh & Chattisgarh circles, Vodafone India has announced the new rates for data on 2G networks will be of effect in all circles starting from November 1.This comes as a diwali treat for Vodafone users.

The data rate are reduced by 80 percent of what it was before. The usage charge of 10 paise per 10 kb is now 2 paise per 10 kb. This new prices will be applicable on Pay as you go basis. Even if the user is on roaming the data plans will be as on his home circle.

Surely this will make usage of internet on smartphones increase considerably. In India though there are lots of smartphone users, one big barrier that stops them from utilizing 100 percent of  their smartphones purpose, is the high data charges posed by carriers. This makes most of the users use only standalone offline apps more that the ones that require a data connection. There aren’t much free WiFi hotspots too in India to give a hand. It would be great if other carriers make this move soon too.

This 80 percent reduction in mobile internet charges for customers using 2G is an important step in our strategy to drive mobile internet and we are confident that this move will facilitate in faster adoption and better usage. Said Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India.
